Struggle In the early days, Javaflix had it’s struggles. I received many compliments on what a wonderful idea it was, yet not many people were showing up. We would have 12 people I one meeting and then 4 or 5 at the next. After about 2 years of this type of fluctuating, Javaflix reached a point in it’s third year where we had 3 straight meetings where no one showed up. I decided to call it quits. It seemed I was the only one interested in the group.
Change Before quitting, I met with my friend and Pastor Brad Zinn. He encouraged me to keep going and maybe make some adjustments to get more people. One adjustment was changing the meetings to just one month. We also changed the space from meeting into a home into a larger, cultural center rented out by my church. Within months, Javaflix was growing. We were averaging 15-20 people and I was satisfied.
Exponential Growth In the Summer of 2007, we showed the film “Children of Men”. At that Javaflix, we had a record 41 people! It was insane. I thought maybe it was a fluke but in the following months, we were hitting the mid thirties. And this past February, we had our largest group yet of 50 people.
Today On average, we have about 35 people. It has been a nice number. Changes still continue to be implemented as we look to make Javaflix the best movie group in the world!
